So now that its December I am defiantly in the holiday mood! Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year. We started decorating our section yesterday… it is elf themed! like the movie. It’s not entirely decked out like some of the other sections but it’s getting there. And right now I am listening to christmas music and the old classics are my favorite! I only wish i had a fireplace in my room, that would be perfect. Also it finally started to snow! Which i will love for about the first month we have it. But if its gonna be cold we might as well have snow! I also started christmas shopping while i was at home over break i went on black friday which meant i bought about two things and then gave up because the mall was soooo crowded. I’m glad my finals get done pretty early so i’ll be able to do some more shopping before christmas, weather i have enough money to buy anything is still yet to be determined. But i hope everyone is able to make it through the next too weeks! and has happy holidays!!!

Thanksgiving break was amazing!! It was so nice being home, it went by way to fast. Over break I went to my grandmas and saw some of my family. I ate way way to much but its ok cause thats what thanksgiving is for! My grandma makes the best food it was soooo good! I had four pieces of pie. After Thanksgiving i spent a lot of time with my friends. We went out to dinner one night about 8 of us girls it was really fun. Then we had a sleep over i got a total of 4 hours of sleep. Probably not very good on account i went to the doctor the next morning at 9am cause i couldn’t breath. Turns out that the cold i’ve had for the past four weeks is actually pneumonia. I am now on 4 diff prescriptions for the next two weeks. I feel pretty terrible but I’m just glad that i finally will be able to get 100% better! Since i’ve been so sick I also spent a lot of time laying in bed and watching movies over break so i have a lot of home work to catch up on. I’m not really looking forward to the next three weeks, i’m gonna be locked in my room writing papers and books i’m afraid. On the other hand i love this time of year the holiday season is my absolute favorite!!

So today i decided to slack off and watch tv. Hulu has become my new best friend after coming to college. I watch so many random shows when ever i have free time! Today I decided it was a good reward for getting an A- on my gov test last friday. I have to stay up to register at 11 anyway so i figured it was a good way to pass the time. This week is pretty relaxed compared to last week but I’m gonna have a ton of reading to do over the break. I can’t wait to go home and finally see all my friends again. it will only be my second time since school started. For thanks Giving I get to go to my grandparents house and have dinner with all my cousins who i never see. They live in a small town called Wanamingo its about a half hour away from Rochester, the population is around 1,000 people. My dad grew up there and my uncle now lives on a farm in a small town right outside of it. He has pigs and cows on his farm. It’s nice to be able to get away from the cities every once in a while. However now i feel as if i’m constantly in the country being in the small town of St. Peter. I have to admit i miss the city life a lot and I can’t wait to go back and visit!

So this past week I have gotten about 24 hours of sleep total. Mostly from staying up super late to study for my government and Anthropology tests. The Anthropology test went over good but I’m not sure how i did on the government test, i guess i will have to wait until monday. So as a result of this lack of sleep I am still sick and i have consumed well over the recommended amount of caffeine, on Friday alone i had five cups of coffee. I think i might be starting to experience withdraws from caffeine which is not good! This week I am planning to go to sleep early so hopefully i will start to feel better. In fact after I am done writing this blog i plan on taking a nap probably for a good five hours. As for everything else going on this week i think all will be going well and hopefully a lot less stressful.

Weekends are my favorite! This week seemed to go by especially slow but and i fell as if i got little done. Which is not good because i have two tests coming up next week. Thankfully today i’m almost 100 percent sure i passed my conditioning final which means i don’t have to keep taking it! Other than that all is going pretty good.

So that play that we went to yesterday was very interesting. I had a lot of trouble understanding what exactly was going on. I feel as if most people felt that way. I’d have to say the most interesting part to me was the part with the hats just cause i thought they all looked really cool. However the meaning behind it didn’t seem very positive. it was cool to see people i recognize from around campus acting though!

I’d just like to make note of the weather! It’s wonderful outside i hope it stays like this for a while! It’s perfect for running in conditioning too which is nice! well thats about all there is going on for the time being!

So i realize i forgot to blog this past Thursday, i guess i just got a little caught up in everything else going on. Today is Halloween and I’m super excited to dress up tonight! I started the day off early though because i did the 5k Halloween fun run which started at 9 this morning! I ended up not running the whole thing an account I’m sick and i find it very difficult to run at the moment. This is kinda funny but my CF told me i could get an elevator key because going up 4 flights of stairs when im sick usually makes me out of breath. I plan on taking full advantage of this! But back to the run, there were crazy costumes! My favorite was a woman dressed up in an orange monster suite, it had long dangly arms that were pretty much bigger than her body! I didn’t dress up but my friend and I plan on making the run a Halloween tradition! Tonight i’m dressing up as a sailor not the most creative idea but the costume was cheap so i thought why not!  Hope everyone has a wonderful Halloween!!

Finally my mid terms are completely over!!! I’m so happy and excited to go home! I have a lot of catching up to do though over the weekend. I plan on seeing my best friend on saturday, she especially took work off on saturday just so we could spend the day together. On Friday I’m going out to eat with my mom on friday night in up town and I’m going to visit an old friend who goes to St Thomas on Saturday night. On Sunday I’m going to watch desperate house wives and brothers and sisters with my mom because there both our favorite shows! The weekend is going to be very relaxing!

This week at GAC was very stressful! I’ve gone to bed past 2 the past three nights. My room is a disaster i plan on cleaning it tomorrow morning because my 10:30 class is canceled!!! I also finally got my package from my grandparents, i was so happy. It had my favorite, rice krispi bars! My grandma makes them better than anyone i know! So thankfully the weeks turning out great!

oh and I recently heard a rumor that next yr Gustavus may be changing its logo to one crown instead of three….which i think is totally stupid! So i was just wondering if anyone knows anymore about that??

This week has been very stressful. The mix of homework, mid terms and sickness is not working out very well. Thankfully i feel like i got at least a B on my government test and I’m starting to feel better, but i still have a slight cough. My art class on the other hand is going to kill me. We drew eggs for 2 hours today…it was not a very good time. Other than homework I’ve just been trying to get organized and stay warm!  Its starting to get chilly and i still don’t have a winter jacket. But today i drank a cup of hot chocolate on my long walk to the art building it was very enjoyable. Over fall break I’m going home and I’m going to buy a winter jacket! It’s also my mom’s birthday on the 23 so I will have to do some shopping before hand for presents! I haven’t gone home since we’ve started school and I’m very excited to see my family and my dog! Her name is Tasha and she’s 12 years old so she’s getting pretty old. I can’t wait for break Its going to be so nice to have days off and see my high school friends and catch up on all this homework!!

I attended Rajendra K. Pachauri’s speech about climate change. I thought it was a very good presentation. He talked mostly about how the earth’s climate is changing including global warming and water stress. He also discussed how human populations will have to adjust to these changes.

He said that the past 11 years have been some of the warmest we have ever had and as time goes on the incline in temperature from year to year continues to rise more dramatically. Also he said that  droughts are  happening in tropical climates such as South Africa. The water stress is something we will all have to deal with by 2020.

He talked about how water stress will  impact human populations. Security of settlements will be impacted because people will not have a stable environment to live in if there is no water. Also Food scarcity will also become an issue; the less water the less food we can produce which will cause food prices to rise. Human populations will have to learn how to adapt to the changing conditions.

One small way we can all contribute to the water stress issue is by showering for shorter periods of time. He mentioned this in his speech if every person cut about 7 min out of their shower time every day we could help save our water resource.

” Be the change you wish to see in the world”

Ok so today is becoming a very stressful day, I had my first test in cultural anthropology… I think I did okay.. but I guess I will just have to wait till next thursday to find out. The reason we have to wait so long is because of the nobel conference…which i lost my ticket for today when i was cleaning my room. So hopefully i can get a new one?

On monday I went to the book talk which i found very interesting. I do have to say one thing that it really bothered me how she kept switching the way she was speaking from spanish accent to a normal american dialect. Although reading the book gave me insight to the things immigrants go through, i felt that her presentation made it seem much more real. It really put things into perspective for me being told live with the pictures.
